Softy Bamboo

29 JUN - 14 . OCT . 2022 . FRI

Designed by Min Kyuwon

This project addresses the issue of environmental pollution, a persistent global problem. In particular, it recommends the use of bamboo tissue, inspired by the rising annual consumption of toilet paper. Bamboo offers a significant advantage over regular trees due to its rapid growth, helping to reduce deforestation.

The project logo is designed as “Pi,” symbolizing sustainability through the concept of infinity, much like the endless digits of the mathematical constant. The name also incorporates “TP,” a shortened form of “Toilet Paper,” and includes a visual element—a bar representing bamboo. Additionally, an exhibition space was designed to raise awareness and share information about bamboo-based tissue products.

Background and Motivation

The idea for this project began with a simple moment in an everyday setting—inside a public restroom. I noticed how much toilet paper was being wasted without much thought, and it made me wonder about the environmental cost behind it. Later, I came across an article highlighting the massive annual consumption of toilet paper worldwide, which further deepened my concern. While researching alternatives, I discovered that bamboo tissue could be a more sustainable option due to bamboo’s fast-growing nature and minimal impact on forests. This realization led to the development of a project that promotes bamboo tissue as an eco-friendly solution and raises awareness through thoughtful design and an informative exhibition.
